There’s so much that mascara can do on your quest for extra-long and full lashes. However, when you are looking for some extra glam, mascara may not entirely meet your needs and expectations. This is when fake lashes can come in handy. False eyelashes have been the centrepiece of many makeup trends throughout the years. They provide your natural lashes with a subtle boost that awakens your eyes. If you are a novice in this, let’s see what you need to know first before you get lash extensions.
Thickness
There are different diameters of fake eyelashes for different purposes. It’s recommended to avoid anything that is too thick (for instance, 0.20mm or 0.25mm) as they are just too much for most lashes to handle. The most common thickness for classic lashes is 0.15mm, while 0.10mm is usually used on very fine lashes. There are also 0.07mm, 0.06mm, and 0.05mm thicknesses that are used for volume lashes.
Different Types
You will find a wide selection of fake lashes available on the market. Mainly, fake lashes are divided into traditional or strip lashes and individual lashes. Some of the most commonly used traditional options are 3D lashes, mink, faux mink, silk, and human hair lashes.
3D lashes are the perfect option for you if you like dramatic looks. These lashes have been expertly designed with a double-layered look for optimal intensity and volume. They provide a bold and dimensional appearance which is ideal for achieving a stand out finish. This is the best way to add heavy density that works to open and enhance your eyes. Mink lashes create a soft, fluffy texture. They are one of the top choices for providing luxury and flawless blend. Being made from silky and high-quality mink hairs, these lashes look extremely natural due to their unbeatable curl and delicate appearance.
A great alternative to mink lashes is faux mink lashes. These eyelashes offer a similar look and feel for a luxurious and full finish. They’re ultra light-weight for a natural appearance and each fibre is softly layered in order to create a delicate and textured effect.
Silk lashes offer an incredibly lightweight and natural appearance with a similar quality to mink lashes. They have a soft and shiny texture that allows for a stunning enhancement. Their feather-light look and feel also provide the ultimate comfort.
Human hair lashes are made from human hair, as their own name suggests. They’re extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear. This is an affordable option for day to day wear and is great for beginners, due to their fine and flexible lash bands that make the application process easier.
Individual lashes come in different lengths and are attached individually until the lashline is full. As opposed to strip lashes that are pretty easy and quick to apply (about 1 minute), these lashes take longer to put on. However, they look more natural where your eyelid meets your lashline and you can put on as many as you want.
How Long Can You Wear False Eyelashes?
How long you can wear false eyelashes depends on the type of lashes you decided to go for. Hence, if you chose traditional lashes, they usually last you through the day. Depending on the amount of glue you used and how good of a bond you got, fake lashes are supposed to last through the end of the night, sometimes you may even wear them overnight. On the other hand, individual lashes are designed to last much longer. You can get days or weeks out of your individual eyelashes.
How to Maintain Them?
When talking about maintenance of eyelashes, we are mostly referring to individual eyelashes, as they last longer, not only for a day as do the strip ones. Proper care and maintenance of these eyelashes are as important as the application itself. The first 24 hours (at least) of application you have to keep your lashes dry. Also, you can only use oil-free makeup remover and oil-free eye products. Another thing to bear in mind is not to rub your eyes, because this will immediately lead to breakage. Don’t use lash curlers, as well. You probably won’t need to use mascara, but if you want to, make sure that it is one specially formulated for lash extensions.
How to Remove False Eyelashes?
Fake eyelashes should be removed before beginning your makeup removal routine. Soften the adhesive with a q-tip or cotton swab that you will previously soak in a good quality makeup remover. You may also use an oil, such as sweet almond or coconut oil. Run your swab along the lash line and then, grab the extension by the outer corner and slowly peel the strip away. If you feel any resistance or pinching, apply more oil or makeup removed and wait a little longer before trying again.
