This article is a shutout to all of you campers that didn’t go van this year. I mean, come on, since when did camping become so disturbingly glam? After all, it’s called camping, not glamping… If you’re feeling spendy, go take your kids to Disney or something cause when I see people invest in a mobile living room and call it an adventure, I can’t help but cringe. I immediately assume that all these people watch is “Keeping up with the Kardashians” while missing out on all what actually stimulates one’s imagination.
As you may have already supposed, I’m more of an “Unexpected Journey” kind of gal and like to travel light and smart, as further as possible into the backcounty and an experience like that is possible only on foot. With a backpack big enough to fit a neatly folded sleeping bag, a tent and several necessary accessories such as tentpegs and poles, I’m always good to go wherever the wind of adventure may blow.
Too much planning can surely ruin a mesmerizing night under the stars, add to that the fact that camper vans are usually restricted to parking lots – the idea of having a lovely green place all to yourself fades away. Now you might mention safety as one of the greatest perks of semi-organized camping communities, but did I mention I’m pretty good at using tentpegs as shurikens and poles as batons?
So, yes, I didn’t get caught up in the upgrade camping frenzy and all talks designed to convert me are destined for a fall. Perhaps, maybe, come my twilight years and I feel like howling at the beauty of the outdoors from a safe and cozy place due to inability to do it otherwise, I might give it a try. I know that many people consider RV-ing a fine way to have both nature and a homey comfort all at once, it really falls short regarding the naturing part.
Exploring has nothing to do with restoring the convenience of your home in the middle of the stunning forests of green. It has to do with letting go of modern needs and coming back to our roots. Losing oneself in order to find oneself and let your mind, body and soul be touched by the totality of it all. So my advice to all of you is to decide to really rip all the benefits camping can offer by taking glam out of the frame. And you might just come to know nature is the most glamorous of them all!
